On losing his leg, the Earl of Uxbridge is reported to have remarked to the Duke of Wellington, "By God sir – I've lost my leg!" – to which Wellington replied "By God sir – so you have!". The leg became a tourist attraction after being buried in the garden of the house, near the battlefield, where it was amputated.
